A message from our Secondary Principal

Welcome back to Semester 2.

I trust you read the end of last week’s noticeboard and saw that we have had several new staff join us. Kate Chhin is the Year 3 teacher, Mr. Grant Cuthbert is in the Library, Mr. Damien Gainsford is the Primary Principal for HOPE Phnom Penh, and Ms. Destinee Sauve is teaching Primary and Middle School PE. All are additions to our teaching team, allowing us to better serve your children and their education here at HOPE. We also welcomed a number of new families along with 18 new students. We trust that all feel welcome and make a smooth transition into our community.

Please continue to share our 2020 staffing needs through your networks. We know that word of mouth, whether in person or through social media, is one of the most powerful recruiting tools that we have, so please help us to get the word out. Please pray for our current staff and for those who are yet to come. (on a personal note David F. and I are not leaving but the school will continue to advertise for a Secondary Principal as it took a long time to fill this role previously and there are other roles I could fill at HOPE should the right applicant come along).

This semester brings many exciting and challenging opportunities for our students. This week saw the visiting team from Australia lead our Lower Primary students in their camp and 6 of our Senior students travel to Japan to compete in the Harvard Model United Nations.

Over the coming weeks we have

School ‘learning’ is not just a classroom event. As I meet with the Year 12’s and they reflected on their Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) experiences, it is clear that it is through a multitude of avenues in addition to the subject learning within the classroom that students learn and grow as human beings. As my own children grew through school I saw that the ‘highlight moments’ so often came through these ‘extra’ activities and that they, in fact, are an integral part of an all round education. I encourage you to support your child’s participation in the breadth of activities that HOPE has to offer. In particular, our camps provide a chance for spiritual, social, service and relationship development in a way that is different to what we can facilitate on site here at school.

Save the date: 24th March 4.30 pm Tanya Crossman Author of Misunderstood will be speaking here at HOPE.

Parents are invited to attend a session on supporting TCK’s into adulthood.

Notices

At HOPE school we are very thankful for all our parent volunteers. We also value our children's safety. To help make HOPE a safe environment, Child Safety Volunteer Training and background check are required for all staff and volunteers. If you think you might volunteer sometime later, please come to training now so you are ready to go. To register for training and background check, please send email to edizza.mora@hope.edu.kh and mention Child Safety Volunteer training. Edizza will then give you details about training and other paperwork needed for volunteering.

Next Training: Thursday 23 January, 2:45-4:00

Location: boardroom or hall (depending on how many are signed up).

HOPE Koupreys Middle School Boys Football Report

League Tournament 11th Jan 2020

Vs East West

A strong team lined up against EW trying to get a good start to the tournament. All game Davis was kept quiet due to excellent defense. Chances came and went, however, in the end we failed to find the back of the net. It was one of those games where we were the better side, but good defense from EW kept us out. Final score 0-0

Vs iCan

Game 2 saw us awaken from the slumber of the first game. Skilled passing up forward saw Thomas slot home our first goal of the day. Mono was on the receiving end of one of our better plays of the year, and put the second goal into the net with silky skill. Final score 2-0.

Vs ISPP

ISSP is always a tough game, and we were up for the challenge. Really strong defense and excellent goal keeping kept us in the game early, before ISPP eventually scored. However, Thomas and Jasper up front linked to allow Thomas to score a great goal, and at half time the score was 1-1.

The second half saw us tick over 100 minutes of play for the day, and we eventually ran out of steam. Final score 5-1.

Vs CIS on Wednesday 15th Jan 2020

Post tournament games are always important and the boys were fired up for a strong game. Early signs were good with Jasper being the beneficiary of a good pass from the free kick. A trademark Thomas run put us 2-0 up, but CIS came back to make it 2-1. Giryeong made a great run to put himself in a good position to finish a loose ball- his first goal of the season.

Final score 3-2 WIN to HOPE.

Looking positive  for the rest of the season. Thanks to Mr Osei and Jake Bennet for assisting in coaching.

The theme of this year is "Super Impossible Promises"

We would like to say thank you to the team from Wollongong Baptist Church who had led the whole lower primary camp.

The Graduating Class of 2025

Year 7's 2030 Vision

Prayer requests for 7A,

We pray for a good start to 2020 and the rest of the decade. We have been thinking about health and wellness, looking behind the Biblical perspective behind this. So pray that God keeps 7A healthy in all aspects of their lives this year: physically, mentally, spiritually and relationally.
