A message from our Board Chair

As FLAG Week draws to a close, I reflect on the theme: 'Give Careful Thought'. Each day we act and react to situations, conversations, and emotions within and without. Our reactions and responses to others impact either directly or indirectly which can have short term and/or lasting consequences.

Being Jesus followers we are so blessed to have a shield and defense in Christ who knows us better than we know ourselves and who is there 24/7 to provide advise, correction and wisdom for all situations. Let’s not forget the learnings from this year’s FLAG week and become stronger individuals and communities because we 'give careful thought' to what we do and say. I have personally seen this in action within the HOPE community over recent weeks. Let's guard our hearts and our mouths seeking to develop a 'culture of honour' first and foremost toward the one who is our greatest Hope and then towards each other.

Yesterday was the first meeting of the school board for this academic year. We are so blessed to have a board who seek to live out this value of 'giving careful thought' in its deliberations around strategic matters. This year we are delighted to welcome three new board members: Wayne McMaster (SIL), Richard Smith (Interserve and Siem Reap) and Judy Collins (to become the OMF rep when Helen leaves at the end of year). Helen will remain chair until December. Bio's for all board members are being written and will be posted next month. Chris Ellinger (Interserve) has stepped down as a board member but has very kindly agreed to continue to serve on the Policy review committee-we are so grateful to Chris .

The board members would value your continued prayers over the coming months as we seek to provide God honouring governance for the HOPE community.

Blessings,

Helen Blaxland

Workplace Hosts and Service Opportunities needed for Year 11 IB Students

As a part of their final two years of study, students include a program known as CAS (creativity, activity and service). The goal is to engage in learning opportunities not easily embedded into a regular academic program.

Ideally part of the experience takes our students outside HOPE to serve others and see more of the 'real world' of work and service. One of the learning outcomes of the program is for students to 'demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance and show involvement in projects addressing these issues in a local, national or international context' and 'demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.'

If you, your church, your workplace or your organisation has any short term projects or job shadowing or service opportunities, please contact me cheryl.flight@hope.edu.kh

As CAS coordinator I am keen to see our students engage in real and authentic opportunities, where they can learn whilst serving others.
