Athletics & Extracurricular Program

Dear Students and Parents

As you may be aware, the MOU that has been agreed between the MoEYS and HOPE School will have a direct impact on the way that PE and all school sports will be played and managed this semester.  Playing interschool sports against other international schools teams is not currently permitted and the MOU requirements will also impact what students are allowed to do during PE lessons and after school sports training sessions.

Despite the restrictions however we are still keen to be able to provide an after school sports program at HOPE, although it will be more limited and look and feel quite different to what has been offered in previous years.

During the first sports season (or until advised otherwise) HOPE School students participating in after school sports will not be permitted to play competitive games, share sports equipment or have any form of contact during our training sessions. They will however be able to practice and improve their skills, strength, conditioning and team work through a range of non-contact, individual activities that fall within the MOU guidelines.

Our focus for this sports season will be building skills and strength within a supportive team environment.

During the first season (August to October) High School students (Years 9-12) will have the opportunity to participate in Volleyball and Middle School students (Years 6-8) will have the opportunity to participate in Basketball.

Each week our HOPE coaches will plan for students to be engaged in a range of exercises, drills and training activities so that they can develop their fitness, spatial awareness, strength and ball handling skills while complying with the COVID-Safe guidelines.

In the coming week I will be sending out a Google Form to all students (and parents) so they can register their interest in the After School Sports program for this coming season. Please be aware that student participation numbers will be limited to ensure compliance with MoEYS guidelines and to ensure that we abide by HOPE’s MOU.

If you have any questions about HOPE’s After School Sports program, please contact me at athletics.director@hope.edu.kh
