Lessons Learned from Teaching Year 4 at HOPE School
I have the honour and privilege of teaching Year 4 for a third year now. This age group loves to have fun and they love to learn! Although I am their teacher, I learn quite a bit from them too. Here are the three biggest life lessons they have taught me over the years:
1. Have a child-like faith! At this age, every child is on their own faith journey. Some are just getting to know Jesus and others are sharing what they have learned about Him to their friends in their Borey. Some accept Jesus into their hearts while others ask deep questions of salvation. To have faith like a child means to explore everything with awe and wonder and also to share your faith with boldness and confidence. It means to trust God and His power, no matter what. It means to pray about everything—not just the big things in life but the little things too—and whatever you are praying about, pray with expectancy that God will answer.
2. Our words matter! In Primary, we know that words are extremely powerful—they can be used to build someone up or tear someone down. We can use our words to mend relationships, build friendships, encourage other people, and praise people for all the great things they have done. Kids (and adults) respond so well to positive feedback. The way we phrase things has a huge impact on kids. Often how we as adults say something is exactly how children will repeat it to others. As well, our phrasing can shape their opinions, attitudes, and beliefs about certain subjects and topics, not just for that lesson but also for years to come. We must make sure our words are uplifting and inclusive for all.
3. It’s okay to make mistakes! Nobody is perfect—phew! It’s okay to extend ourselves a little bit of grace from time to time. Mistakes are how we learn and they help us grow as we reflect on how we can improve or do better next time. Laughing at our own mistake helps everyone feel at ease. Spend less time worrying about making things perfect and more time being present.
Families and Colleagues, let’s always remember to learn from our kids and grow alongside them too!

What is MUN? Model United Nations allow students to roleplay as diplomats representing their assigned countries to simulate the process of the UN General assembly and other important UN organizations. Delegates are expected to collaborate with each other to create resolutions to solve the world's most pressing issues today.
This year, due to the global health pandemic, majority of the Model UN competitions opted to go remote. Hope MUN Club has also decided to launch online training sessions to best prepare students when doing MUN online.
