Beyond HOPE with Ezra Blaxland
Beyond HOPE is a video series featuring Alumni as we reflect and honor 20 years of HOPE.
At HOPE, we consider anyone who has spent any amount of time at HOPE an Alumni - not just graduates.
These are previously recorded stories of those who have come before us and God's faithfulness in their lives.
Upcoming Dates to Remember:
14-24 March GL Testing for G1-G8
27-31 March Book Week
27 March Book Character Dress up Day
3-14 April Khmer New Year Holiday
Over the month of March, a chess competition is at play! The competitors are Grade 4 to Grade 12, but who will be the grade champions and ultimately the HOPE Chess Master for 2023? Stay tuned for the results!
Big thanks to Thressa Brand, James Brand, and Elizabeth Shin for putting on this fun and challenging event for our students.
Mr. Rye and the Grade 10 Art students had a dress up lesson for artist research. You can see some artists featured here: Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, Durer, Mary Cassatt, and Mr. Rye as Banksy. Fun, interactive, and engaging!
“Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.” -Leonardo da Vinci
Every year we conduct GL tests to gauge students' understanding of curriculum, and to provide teachers with data to support individual students.
The tests are conducted in Grade 1 through Grade 8. At HOPE we want to support and care for all students and see them succeed in the classroom!
So why is testing important at HOPE? The data from these tests allows the teachers to:
· assess students’ knowledge, understanding, and application at this present time,
· celebrate students’ strengths and recognize possible gaps in learning,
· put in place in the classroom actionable steps to support the students’ learning at the beginning of this academic year,
· track progress at an individual and cohort level,
· identify areas of subject strength for students in the IGCSE and IB programs.
HOPE will again be partnering with ELIC Cambodia to run our English Camp summer program. ELIC is an experienced Christian organization that sends teachers all over the world to teach English as a foreign language.
For registration, please fill out this Google Form for each child that will be participating. Spread the word to your neighbors, churches, and friends with the flyers below. Korean and Khmer translations are included!
Availability is on a first come, first serve basis.
Last week, Adam Ecklund, Sophal Phork and Rachel Meyer went to visit the tuk tuk driver Leng Thav, his wife, and their 9 year old daughter. Thav continues to heal from the cut on his back and the impact it has on his mobility. Please pray that the cut does not get infected and also pray for the ongoing medical issues that have arisen internally from a crash of this magnitude. Overall, he does seem to be headed in the right direction. It will be a long road until he is able to move around and work again.
We used some of the donated funds to purchase the family a Bible, a variety of Christian children's books in Khmer, and some fruit. The parents and daughter were elated to receive the gifts. In the corner of their home lay all the cards made in HOPE's Art Classes by our students. You could tell that the family had been reading them and the daughter enjoys them very much.
As one might imagine, the mother has so many questions as to why this has happened to them. She feels immense guilt and is deeply mourning the loss of her daughter. I was grateful that we were able to mourn alongside her and be transparent about the hope we have in Christ. The mother mentioned, "when we come to visit that we feel like family and she feels comforted". Isn't our Lord good? He loves them so much to allow this entire community to be His hands and feet to them during this time.
The daughter paid close attention as we shared about the Bible and where they could start reading. She listened intently as we laid hands and prayed for His healing and presence to be upon them during this time. This child heard clearly that our gifts and monetary help are not to purchase them for our faith, but as an overflow of how Christ loves and wants to help provide for them. She was so attentive to this group of strangers who sat on the floor of her home and who offered hope in Jesus as we asked for nothing in return. I pray God does something mighty with this family, especially this little girl.
Praise be to the Lord for all He is doing that is seen and unseen. Let's continue to lift up this family as they encounter Jesus for the first time and pray that one day they would follow Him.

Primary Pickup Procedures, effective from today Tuesday, 14th March.
To streamline our operations, Preschool will now dismiss at 2:30 pm to align with the rest of the primary school, and the gates will open at 2:25 pm. Additionally, we will no longer be using the old parent pickup cards. Instead, we kindly request that you fill out a list of approved pickup people using this form that will be shared with teachers.
If you expect your child to be picked up by someone other than those listed, please send an email to your child's class teacher, and cc the Front Office (office@hope.edu.kh) to ensure that we have updated information.
We hope that these changes will maintain the safety of our students while being convenient for parents and staff!
C9 has a table set up on Monday and Friday mornings outside of the secondary gate to sell lunch and snack cards. Purchases can also be made at the C9 window before or after school each day.
Lunch cards are available in increments of 5 or 10 meals, regular or small size. Snack cards are $7.50 each.
