Feeling refreshed and renewed!

Camp Week has breathed new life into our school community.

From the adventures out in the nature of Cambodia to the moments of quiet reflection, we recharged our spirits with faith and joy. With hearts full of excitement and revived energy, we are ready to return to our classrooms, carrying the lessons learned and the spirit of Camp Week with us.

HIGHLIGHTS

CAMP Week 2024

Camp Week is one of the most exciting and fun times of the year. Our students, staff, and parents look forward to it. These are some photos of our four Camp Programs!

At school, a team from Woodway, Texas, volunteered to run our lower Primary Camp alongside our staff with the theme ‘God is good!’ Here is the song our students song for the four days! What a fantastic day we had at Doozi on the last day with Preschool!

Kompong Thom and HOPE were the places where the Camp for Grades 4 and 5 took place, with a visit to Garden City Waterpark on the last day. They learned that the power to influence others comes from the influence we get from God.

The middle school students spent four days at Shalom Valley Camp in the province of Kep with time for adventure and time for reflection, exploring their growth with God, with others, and with themselves.

Reflecting on finding purpose in who you are and not what you do was the challenge for Grades 9 and 10. In Mondulkiri, they had an opportunity to reconnect with their core away from the daily routine at school.

Grade 11 explored the theme of being faithful followers in Siem Reap. They learned that the people and ideas we choose to follow have a significant impact on our identity, decision-making process, and the path we take in life.

Our Grade 12 students will have camp after their exams in May. However, last week, Boy Scouts of America members and HOPE students Kyler Hester and Johnny Mora, plus HOME Homeschooler Nate Lee traveled to Ang Kcheay Village in Kampot. They ran a training session for 40 high school and middle school students and a basketball clinic for 16 primary school students as part of Nate's Eagle Scout Project.

We are thankful to God, our staff, and our always supportive community of parents for their positive response and willingness to make the four days of Camp Week meaningful to our students. We trust that the experiences gained during Camp Week will continue to enrich the lives of our students.

A Shakespeare Day

High school students recently had the opportunity to attend a workshop with Daniel Foley, a Shakespearean actor, writer, and producer who has extensive experience in over 200 stage productions across 75 countries. This workshop was a part of their English class, and it focused on drama activities and gave students just an introduction to the world of Shakespeare.

It was a Leap Day!

February had 29 days this year! We celebrated Leap Day by jumping and getting some marshmallows!

Taara Portela

Secondary Principal

'In one of my first devotions to staff this semester, I shared the phrase, “Love is an Open Door”, and while a Frozen song might immediately come to your mind, my purpose in sharing this phrase was to encourage our staff to teach with openness, authenticity, hospitality, and love. At that time, our family was figuratively knocking on several doors in Canada, while also prayerfully considering whether the “door” at HOPE was still open to us. Fast-forward a few weeks to Camp, where in Grade 11 we looked at what it means to be a Faithful Follower of Christ. The world may tempt us to follow our hearts, the crowd, or the money, but the challenge as Christ-followers is to fix our eyes upon Him, and allow Him to lead us. I consider it a true privilege to continue following Christ in my position as Secondary Principal at HOPE and will strive to lead with openness, authenticity, hospitality, and love. We are thankful for the support of the HOPE community in this appointment. To God be the Glory! '

KOUPREYS | SPORTS

The HOPE Koupreys display of sportmanship

Twenty-nine Koupreys athletes traveled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for a five-day Tri-Sport Tournament hosted by the Asia Christian Schools Conference Division II at Oasis International School. The young athletes, divided into boys' and girls' teams, showed both perseverance and talent, earning victories and defeats in Basketball, football (Soccer) and Volleyball that left us immensely proud.

The Tournament awarded All-Star Teams, including HOPE's five representatives: Jacob Logan, Johnson Oh, Kyler Hester, Jasper van Hulst, and Julia Oh. Additionally, celebrate the Boys’ team first-place win! Also, Johnson Oh secured the runner-up title for the Boys' Tournament MVP. While HOPE didn't claim the overall sportsmanship award, HOPE was one of only two nominated schools.

Beyond competition, the delegates embraced the opportunity to explore Kuala Lumpur's vibrant culture. The connections established among other schools transcended competition, fostering true sportsmanship.

As a school, we acknowledge the leadership and companionship of our dedicated coaches, who guided these 29 delegates—Lorinda Wishart, Adam Ecklund, Rachel Meyer, Liz Logan, Nathan Kramm, and Chappy (Mark) Kramm—on this journey.

From Sports Season 2 to Season 3

Season 2 has ended for Middle School Football, High School Basketball and Minis Basketball. The students have demonstrated exceptional performances and we appreciate our dedicated coaches who committed during these seasons amidst the different school activities taking place.

Season 2 is not yet over, and we still have some sports training and competition dates remaining for:

The Athletic Teams are already working to prepare for Season 3. More details were sent to you via email. If you have any questions, please contact Lorinda Wishart, our Athletic Director.
