Hot days and Cool achievements!

The sun is blazing, marking officially the arrival of the hottest season of the year and a well-deserved break!

Khmer New Year is here and before we loosen up, let’s take a moment to look back at the results of completed projects, tests conquered, and the knowledge overflow we have all gained to this point.

We hope this break refreshes you! Remember to put on your coolest smiles (and maybe a krama and shades!) to get into the mood of celebration.

HIGHLIGHTS

Students Shaping Our School

HOPE is excited to announce Elijah Hodges and Bethanee Soeung as the School Captains for the 2024-2025 Academic Year. We are thrilled to see their leadership in our community once current School Captains Su Min Lee and Abigail Bryce conclude their season at HOPE.

In other news, the HOPE Board recently met with the Secondary Student Council to ensure the school's core values resonate with the student body. This discussion reaffirmed HOPE's commitment to student participation in a vibrant school life.

Track and Field 2024

Over 50 HOPE athletes competed at the annual ISSAPP Track & Field Championship last Friday, showcasing their running, jumping, and throwing skills! Our supportive HOPE community cheered on students from Grades 4-12 as they battled it out individually and in their relay teams across Boys and Girls divisions.

Demonstrating incredible resilience, our Koupreys placed HOPE among the winners 23 times in the overall results across the seven schools that are part of ISSAPP! This collective effort is a testament to the dedication of our student-athletes.

Congratulations to all our Koupreys–we are incredibly proud of your achievements! Check out the results on the Koupreys Website and see more details about each event. Medals were awarded this morning during the Secondary School Assembly.

Staff In-Service

On Thursday, March 28th HOPE staff participated in a half-day of engaging workshops designed to enhance their classroom skills. With a wide range of topics offered, teachers had the opportunity to select three sessions that most interested them.

These workshops covered a variety of practical areas, including utilizing technology, fostering inclusion, and exploring innovative approaches like Artificial Intelligence. We hope this day of professional development left the staff feeling refreshed, empowered, and equipped with new insights to integrate into their lessons.

ACADEMICS

IGCSE Art Exams

Here's a glimpse of the IGCSE Art Exam projects! These art students created these impressive pieces in just 10 weeks, culminating in a final 8-hour exam to complete their masterpieces in Mr. Mark Rye’s class.

The full Art Exam is composed of five different pieces in which students convey their ideas. These artworks belong to Kye Yue Sim (Delight), Julia Oh and Seung Yeon Lee.

These artworks belong to Ezariah Lee, Christian Asiata, Sarang Han and Andrew Lim.

Grade 7 Math Gets Creative!

Teacher Jerico Colon's class brought maths to life with a fun project showcase. Students explored concepts like lines, areas, and volume scale factor, demonstrating their understanding through creative presentations. Congratulations on their outstanding work and innovative thinking!

Creative School Assemblies

Here are some photos of the unforgettable performances of our Preschool and Primary students during the last assemblies!

Thanks to your amazing support, our Read-a-Thon raised a fantastic $435.00! This will allow us to purchase some long-anticipated books for our students, including exciting graphic novels and new titles in popular series. They will be added to the library's collection and be available after the break. Get ready to explore new stories within these fascinating books!

Read-a-Thon results (read more)

Congratulations to all students who participated in the Read-a-Thon! Your dedication for reading has shone through, as evidenced by the impressive 2,619 leaves collectively added to your reading trees. This achievement represents a staggering total of 1,309 hours and 30 minutes spent engrossed in books, averaging nearly eight hours per student. Such an accomplishment speaks volumes about your commitment to learning and personal growth.

Special commendations to Grade 5 students, who served as the runners-up with a total of 396 hours read. This translates to an average of 13 hours and 21 minutes per student, showcasing their hard work and determination.

However, the spotlight shines brightest on 4A, who emerged as the winners of this competition. With a remarkable total of 421 hours read, averaging 23 hours and 22 minutes per student, 4A has set a high benchmark for reading at our school. Well done 4A!

To all participants, well done on your efforts. We hope that you have grown and learned new things through this process. Reading is a fundamental skill that opens doors to vast knowledge and worlds beyond our imagination. Keep up the fantastic work, and don’t stop reading!

From our Chaplain

Gentle and lowly

”Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” - ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭29‬

Jesus was described in many ways. Often when he had the opportunity to describe himself he would ask a question rather than give a response. But here we see Jesus describe himself. And the choice of characteristics is gentle and lowly. By this he displays his power to give rest for your souls.

And it is through grace. Immeasurable and all powerful grace. We do not deserve gentleness. We do not deserve the humility of our Saviour’s lowly heart. But He gives rest for your soul anyway. So let go of your sin, let go of your failures. You're not perfect, you never will be, but your Saviour is gentle with your soul, He is lowly in heart, you can rest in Him now.

This break, my prayer for you is that you would take your deepest defeats, and go to Him, who is gentle and lowly, with your failures, and find rest for your souls.
